Community involvement is one of the pillars of Solcana CrossFit. Our goal is to invest in projects that improve fitness and health opportunities for kids, teens and adults in the Seward Neighborhood as well as the surrounding metro area. The Solcana Strength teen program is the foundation of our community involvement. Working with MERC alternative high school and Metro Academy, Solcana provides a free classes that meet four days per week. The class focuses on strength in character through strength in body. Students learn the technique and discipline of Olympic Weighlifting, Powerlifting and CrossFit.
The program started in a humble school gymnasium and has moved to the Solcana space, where teen athletes are learning to find focus through movement, learn proper lifting technique, and teamwork skills.
Our two groups of talented athletes have committed to keeping above average grades, attendance and behavior in school so they can train at Solcana. In addition, this year they are receiving a health and PE credit for their time in the gym. We strive to help these teens reach their full potential both inside and outside of the gym.
Our teen group from Metro academy is made up young Somali women from the neighborhood who are interested in learning more about taking care of their health and strengthening their bodies. These young women are breaking out of their comfort zone each time they come to the gym, to become healthier, happier women.
Are you interested in getting involved with the teen program? Do you have a teen who could benefit? Do you work at a school that would like to partner with Solcana? If so, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
